I came to this the long way round. Ten years at a desk left me with a back that complained every afternoon and a pair of hips that had quietly stopped moving. The first class I went to was too fast, too full of poses I could not do, and I did not go back for a year.
The second one was slower. The teacher spent the first ten minutes on breathing and never once asked anybody to do anything impressive. That was the class that changed things — not because it was easy, but because it was repeatable.
That is what I try to teach now. Short practices you will actually come back to. A longer exhale than inhale. Shapes taken to the edge of sensation and no further. Rest treated as part of the work rather than the bit you skip when you are busy.
Everything I teach in the studio ends up written down here, in plain language, so you can practise it at home on the mornings you cannot make it in.
